About Us

What is Heartbeat International Missions?

Heartbeat International Missions was started in 2008 as an outreach of Bible Baptist Church where I served as pastor. The idea was conceived when we had the opportunity to visit the Philippines after a 31 year absence. Bonnie and I served as missionaries there in the mid-seventies until a serious illness prevented us from staying. As we have the opportunity now to re-focus our fervor and love for this ministry after all these years, we covet your prayers. The purpose of Heartbeat is to assist the nationals in their quest to carry out the Great Commission. This commission was first given to the church in Jerusalem, and has been passed down to every Scriptural, Bible-believing church since that time.

Bonnie and I have been involved in carrying out the Great Commission in full-time ministry since 1967.. The Lord has allowed us to personally start ten churches and, through those churches, to help start several others. Church planting is the message of the Great Commission and needs to be carried out in “our Jerusalem’ and, at the same time, expanded to Judea, Samaria, and the uttermost parts of the earth. Since the inception of this ministry in 2008, we have been able to assist in ministries in the Philippines, Cambodia, and Haiti. As we expand this ministry beyond our local church, it is our desire to serve as Christ’s ambassadors in these and other countries, and to get other pastors and churches throughout the United States to help us help them to plant even more churches throughout the world.

The greatest needs of a church planter, whether here in the United States or in any other part of the world, are:

Food, clothing, and shelter for the church planter and his family

A meeting place for the church

All the necessary equipment, literature, Bibles, hymnals, etc.

As a new church grows and develops, they will need land and a permanent building

To accomplish all the above, they will need financial assistance

Since 2008, we have been able to come alongside some of these church planters and assist them in their endeavors. Some of the fruits of their labors and ours are:

  • Cornerstone Fundamental Baptist Church (Pastor Ramil Ofrecio) has been planted in Balanga City, Philippines, and now has a rented building to meet in.
  • Beulah Land Baptist Church (Pastor Alex Ramirez) in Abucay, Philippines,  has been able to expand his ministry and  start five new missions, which now have their own buildings.
  • Bethel Independent Baptist Mission (Pastor Robert Mendoza) has been able to move into a larger building and has seen many saved, baptized, and added to the church. They also started a mission work in Floridablanca which now meets in their own building.
  • Cornerstone Fundamental Baptist Mission (Pastor Randy Santos) started in April, 2010, in the growing city of Dinalupihan and has already started a second outreach. They now have their own building.
  • New Hope Baptist Church (Pastor Mateo Santiago) in Naguilian, Philippines, has been able to purchase land, build a building, and start several mission works. Pastor Mateo’s wife, Mela, was saved under our ministry in the mid seventies.
  • Pastor Jenesis Santiago, our grandson in the faith, has started a mission in Candon, Philippines, and has seen many saved. He now has a second outreach where another new work has been started.  Both ministries now have their own church lots and hope to build soon as the Lord provides.
  • Pastor Pedrito Pulmano is pastor of Bible Baptist Church in a mountain village (a church we started in 1976). Because of the poverty and lack of employment, their work was struggling greatly. As a result of $75 in monthly support, they are again growing and thriving.
  • Pastor Francis Landingin, who is from the Philippines, has started a new mission in Cambodia and has seen many saved. He is now discipling them and has been able to distribute Bibles to all the new believers, and has now started a Bible College. They have now purchased a church lot and hope to begin construction in September, 2016.
  • We have been able to take hundreds of Bibles and lots of Sunday School materials and study books to these national pastors and their workers. They are sharing and rotating these materials from church to church each week.
  • We have now started Heartbeat Baptist Bible College in Bataan where several young men are presently training for the ministry. We now also have Heartbeat Bible Baptist Institute in Badoc, Ilocos Norte, one of the northernmost provinces of Luzon. Heartbeat Baptist Bible Institute in Cambodia is also growing and training National Pastors for their ministries. Several graduates of these schools are already out planting and pastoring churches.
These are all accomplishments which have come about because of the combined efforts of many individuals and churches. Our combined labor of love is truly making a difference in the lives of these pastors and their churches.

I have truly been blessed to be found worthy to serve my Savior as a pastor for nearly five decades now. Since stepping out of the pastorate in 2011, I plan to continue in ministry as long as the Lord gives me breath. As Bonnie and I focus our time and energy upon this ministry, it is simply our desire to help the nationals carry out the Great Commission. We are not seeking personal support for this ministry, but we do hope to raise enough monthly support to plan at least two ministry trips each year. We also hope to enlist the help of pastors and laymen to go with us on these trips. We have named our ministry HeartBEAT International Missions. The BEAT is an acrostic for Baptist Evangelistic Assistance Teams. We plan to go into these countries and assist in teaching, encouraging and enabling them to reach their people for Christ and in planting independent, Bible-believing Baptist Churches in their cities and villages. We want to use the resources God has provided to us in order to assist them in building indigenous self-supporting churches. We would love to have you on our team. You may contact us by snail mail at the address on our letterhead or by email at HeartbeatTeam@aol.com.  Please pray for us as we continue this venture of faith.

Yours for Souls,

Jim & Bonnie Johnson
